Yvette always loved to dance since she was a young girl and had a naturally flexible body. So when she first started practicing Yoga, assuming Yoga was a practice to gain some flexibility and put herself into some Yoga poses, she thought it would be fairly easy.
But as she learned that Yoga is actually a deliberate practice for cultivating a balance of strength and flexibility, and to sit still for physical ease and mental calm, she noticed that this is a life-long practice that is challenging in many ways. The subtle yet powerful reward she would feel in her daily life was the reason that made her become dedicated in her practice and her study of Yoga.
This led to completing her 500 hour teacher training at Yogaworks in Santa Monica, CA and started teaching in 2007.
In 2012 she took Paul and Suzee Grilley’s Yin Yoga Teacher Training in Soquel, CA which had a big impact on her practice and way of teaching. Rather than teaching based on what the Yoga poses and movements look like, she emphasizes learning how to feel different sensations in your body with curiosity and with an open-mind, allowing that process to lead you into finding your inner wisdom.
The quiet and calm stillness that you practice with Yin Yoga is the perfect balance to not just Yang Yoga but to our daily life of doing, being busy, and distraction which is why Yvette feels passionate about sharing Yin Yoga.
She is also a dog-sitter and loves walking and playing with her dog “clients” when she is not teaching Yoga.
