My phone is silent

You would think practicing relaxation would make me a calm person, but I feel like it has made me a jumpy person. Practicing staying still and silent for minutes so that I can try to feel nothing but the movement of my breath and my aliveness has made me sensitive to sudden external sounds/movements.

I remember one evening practicing Yin Yoga at home, I was in a greater state of relaxation than usual when my phone made the DING!!!! sound because I had forgotten to turn it off. The sound felt like a shock reverberating through my whole body and snapped me out of my relaxation state.

After noticing how that sound affected my body, I tried to find a ring tone that wasn’t as harsh and started to put my phone on silent as often as possible. I think we are being bombarded by enough sounds these days and I don’t want all those DINGs accumulating in my body and making me tense up over time.

If you don’t have to keep your phone on and know every text, phone call, and notification, I recommend you try this and notice if you feel a difference in your anxiety/stress level. I know it definitely makes a difference for me.
