I’m multitasking

I often get lost when I’m listening to someone tell a story or when I’m watching a movie because my mind wanders off somewhere far far away…. By the time I come back to reality I have lost track of the story and have question marks floating above my head.

I’ve always had a hard time focusing since I was little and now that this world has become overloaded with more and more information, it’s making my lack of focus even worse.

All this information that’s supposed to be helpful popping up all over the place on my phone, TV, computer screen is SO not helpful for my focusing skills.

When I practice Yin Yoga, it might look like I’m doing nothing… but for me, it feels like I’m multitasking.

I’m paying attention to all the colorful sensations of stretch and compression that is continuously changing colors as I hold the pose. I’m paying attention to the quality and movement of my breath which can be felt throughout the vast whole of my body. I’m paying attention and being entertained by the never-ending stream of thoughts and emotions that bubble up. I’m paying attention to finding where I’m holding and gripping so that I can focus on relaxing that area of my body... Phew!!! So much to do!!

Now just imagine how this crazy world feels if practicing Yin Yoga is multitasking to me.

So please don’t take it personally if I seem lost when I’m having a conversation with you… it’s not that I’m bored. I’m just trying to multitask listening to the words and processing the words in my head as I try to keep my mind from going far far away.
