back to “normal”?
To be honest, all this talk about being able to go back to “normal” soon is making me feel a little anxious. It is making me wonder if I want to go back to “normal” and what my new “normal” is going to be…
I never really liked the word “normal.” I mean, what is that supposed to mean? The definition of normal is “the standard or the common type” but that doesn’t necessarily describe anything. It just means… average?
Are you the average weight for your height? Do you earn the average income for your age? What is an average weight/color/temperament of a certain breed of dog? Are we any kind of average?
We are all unique! Yin Yoga teacher Bernie Clark often says, “Nobody has your unique biology and your biography.” This is why we must customize our Yoga pose and practice to fit our unique body, self, lifestyle, and needs. You don’t want to try to squeeze yourself into the average mold of a Yoga pose.
I think customizing Yoga poses for your unique self requires more self study and self-reflection because you're trying to be guided by what is inside you rather than exterior guidance and instructions.
So, now that I know I am not going back to my old “normal” before the pandemic, I am doing some self-studying and self-reflection now to figure out what my new “normal” is going to be…
