valentine’s rendezvous
Oh, Yoga… this thing that I just happen to like and get into and make it my job… I always remember the first day taking my Yoga teacher training course, the teacher said, “If you are thinking about becoming a Yoga teacher to make money, you should leave right now.” In my personal experience so far, she was right. This job has not given me a whole lot of $$$ but it has given me the gift of experiences and relationships that are priceless.
Exactly a year ago, I was spending a valentine’s rendezvous in Vancouver, BC with my Yoga wife Stacie. We went to attend a Yin Yoga teacher training taught by Bernie Clark and Diana Batts. I would like to believe our mutual love for Yoga and food and each other (right Stacie?) has continued to deepen our relationship but this trip was the first time we spent so much time together… and it just happened to be on Valentine’s week so it was perfect! (just in case, I’ll state here that Stacie is married and has an actual husband.)
The training was a week long at a beautiful yoga studio on Granville island overlooking the harbor. The morning meditation and Yin Yoga practice as you watch the sun rise was so peaceful and delicious that just closing my eyes now and remembering it makes me feel calm.
Yes, the learning and practicing Yoga part was wonderful and satisfying…
But I must admit that what stands out as the best memories from this training is the moments with Stacie. Catching up while we eat and drink at the hotel bar the night we arrived, waking up at the crack of dawn taking turns walking to Starbucks to get our morning coffee, making important decisions where to eat and drink for dinner, and then getting full and a little(?) intoxicated as we go back to our hotel room and chitchat away.
Yes, I spent a good chunk of money to attend this Yoga teacher training and yes, I have a low-income job being a Yoga teacher… but if it weren’t for Yoga I wouldn’t have met Stacie and have this friendship with her and that would’ve been a huge loss for me. So thank you Yoga for not giving me a whole lot of $$$ but keeps on giving in other ways!
